BEACHCOMBING, CAMPFIRES, & BERRY PICKING
Even though there are no established hiking trails at Port Ashton Lodge, there is plenty of beachfront to explore, beautiful sunsets to watch, berries to pick, and marshmallows to roast. On the beachfront, there is a fire pit for campfire chats and s'mores, and a horseshoes pit; all for your enjoyment.
When you explore the beach, you might find smooth, colorful beach glass or glass soda bottles from the old cannery days. Every tide brings new treasures. The tidelands boast many tide pools, sea stars (starfish), hermit crabs, and sea anemones.
In the forested areas, blueberry and salmonberry bushes surround the cabins. Berries are ripe for the picking in late July. Across Bear Cove (where our dock is located), and through an unmaintained game trail, is Monolith Meadow. In the meadow, wildflowers bloom and bog marshes abound.

If you are an experienced, avid hiker and you'd like to explore the island further, let us know and we'll try to assist you. Keep in mind that there are no maintained trails, and any hiking would be done through thick temperate rainforest brush on wild game trails, requiring bushwhacking and extra caution. Bear safety must be observed at all times.
